The word 'photograph' means 'light-drawing', so is photography simply using a camera to capture the light reflected from a scene?

After years of taking photographs I realised that what makes the camera so special is that it captures light in ways that the human eye cannot.

I'm drawn to long exposure photography because the final image can show a scene that looks completely different (and perhaps more beautiful?) to how the same scene appears to the human eye...... but both versions of the scene are equally real.
